Seismic Assessments

Initial Evaluation Procedure (IEP) Assessment for Earthquake Strength

The IEP Assessment is an initial assessment of a buildings seismic risk and performance during an earthquake.  IEP Assessments are carried out in accordance with the NZSEE guidelines.

The IEP assessment method is a quick method of identifying if a building is potentially earthquake prone. The IEP assessment is based on the buildings age, the type of materials used, the construction type and other factors.  It provides us with a percentage of New Building Standard.

Detailed Engineering Evaluation (DEE)

A DEE is a more in-depth analysis of the above.  It includes a visual inspection of the building coupled with a  review of available documentation such as drawings, specifications and IEP's.

The purpose of the above assessment is to determine the likely building performance and damage patterns, identify any potential Critical Structural Weaknesses (CSW) or collapse hazards and to make an assessment of the likely building strength in terms of percentage of New Building Standard (%NBS).
